Dubai Airshow 2025 Summary: Airbus Leads, Boeing Strong in Widebody Segment

Dubai Airshow 2025 concluded with major orders from the Middle East and Africa, marked by intense competition between aircraft manufacturers. While Airbus led in total commitments, Boeing delivered a strong performance, particularly in the widebody segment.

The largest deal of the event came from Emirates, which signed an order for 65 Boeing 777-9 aircraft. Valued at approximately 38 billion USD, the order increases Emirates’ widebody fleet portfolio to 315 aircraft. The agreement gives significant support to Boeing’s 777X program, with deliveries expected to begin in the second quarter of 2027. It was also reported that the deal includes options for the newly proposed 777-10 model.

Although Boeing secured additional orders for the 737 MAX and 787 Dreamliner, the 777-9 order represented its biggest contribution at the show.

On the Airbus side, a more diverse customer base stood out. flydubai, choosing Airbus for the first time, placed an order for 150 A321neo aircraft, marking a major shift in the airline’s fleet strategy. Etihad Airways ordered six A330-900s as part of its fleet renewal plan and announced that it will add an additional nine aircraft through leasing. Etihad also committed to seven A350-1000s and three A350Fs.

Airbus further strengthened its long-range position with new A350 orders from airlines such as Air Europa, Ethiopian Airlines, and Emirates.

African carriers also drew attention with increased activity. Air Senegal placed an order for nine 737 MAX aircraft, while FlySafair and Air Côte d’Ivoire also took steps to expand their fleets. This trend reflects Africa’s broader ambitions for fleet modernization and larger market share.

Dubai Airshow 2025 proved successful for both Airbus and Boeing, with strong order books on both sides. The strong demand for widebody aircraft among Middle Eastern carriers emerged as one of the main themes of the event.
